Embarking on a new movement practice, or reigniting an old one, can feel like stepping into the unknown. It's natural to feel daunted by the uncertainties that come with starting afresh. Will we measure up to others' expectations? Where do we even begin? These questions can loom large, hindering our first steps.
Similarly, life's twists and turns—be it injuries, health setbacks, or major life changes—can disrupt our established routines. Returning to our practice under such circumstances can be tinged with anxiety. We worry about our abilities, fearing we won't reach previous heights or achieve our desired goals. The prospect of starting anew, especially after putting in significant effort to progress, can be disheartening.
Yet, when we let the weight of fear hold us back, we limit ourselves. We trap ourselves in a cycle of all-or-nothing thinking, missing out on the potential that each moment holds.
What if, instead, we acknowledged our fears and uncertainties, recognizing their presence without letting them dictate our actions? What if we chose to push forward despite them, embracing the unknown and discovering what lies beyond our fears? Perhaps, in doing so, we'll find that persistence is the very antidote to our anxieties and perceived limitations.
